CLEAR BASED 1988 WOODPECKERS

We were recently asked by a collector if we could explain why there are 2 different versions of the 1988 annual edition Woodpeckers. But, before we deal with the topic of the base of the piece, there is another difference exclusive (so far) to this annual edition.

GONE FISHING

Another one of those strange facts for you! Here in the UK, 4th September 2020 is National Fish and Chip day! Swarovski’s delightful grizzly bear cub proudly holds a silver salmon in his mouth demonstrating that he already possesses excellent fishing skills and won’t be going hungry!

BO SO BRILLIANT BEAR

Bo Bear So Brilliant was the first of the Bo Bears to be retired from production and was available only through 2012. Still a firm favourite with clients, Bo Bear So Brilliant is made in Crystal Metallic Light Gold colour and has 70 crystal stones set in the exclusive Pointiage® technique glitter on his tummy. All the Bo bears to date have been designed by Peter Heidegger.

SEAL OF APPROVAL

We were recently asked by a collector to find one each of the variations of large and mini seals from the Swarovski Silver Crystal range. The family portrait below shows all the family members together just before they set off to their new home.

ROYAL WEDDING DUCKS

These are a limited edition set of Happy Ducks to commemorate the Royal Wedding on 29th April 2011. The ducks are the "usual" Happy Prince and Happy Princess duck, but they are packaged together in a blue Swarovski box, and come with their own little carrier bag. Limited to just 3,000 sets, the Royal Wedding Ducks are specially engraved. The male duck (drake) has 29th April 2011 engraved on his back, while the lady duck has two wedding rings engraved on her back. These ducks were not available in Swarovski stores or on their website.

HAPPY 12TH BIRTHDAY TO THE CRYSTAL LODGE

Time certainly flies - The Crystal Lodge (in its current format) is 12 years old today (1st September 2020). Once again, we broke all our sales records this business year, something we weren’t really expecting, particularly with the global lockdown situation. Thank you so much for your support, loyalty and custom through the years - we really couldn't do this without you. It has been an incredible year, thank you everyone. Year 13 starts here …! Still can’t quite believe it.

SWAROVSKI S-S-S-SNAKE

The first Swarovski snake produced was the cobra. He was part of the “African Wildlife collection” and is made from clear facetted crystal and has a rhodium (silver) forked tongue. This slinky beast was available from 2000 to 2004 and was designed by Heinz Tabertshofer. We’ve chosen a picture taken of the side view as he’s far too scary to look at face to face!

DISNEY DUMBO 1990 AND 1993

In 1990 a Disney Dumbo figurine was produced and was available in the USA only. This Dumbo has black eyes. Only 3,000 of these were made, which were sold exclusively in Disney parks. It has a very similar body to the “mainstream” Silver Crystal elephants in issue at that time with a blocked body (ie no individual legs), but if you look closely you may also notice some of the other components on this Dumbo look familiar. The ears are the 1988 Woodpecker wings and the curly top on the hat is a component also used for the tail of the large crystal tailed pig!

INTERNATIONAL DOG DAY

Wednesday 26th August was "International Dog Day" - so here are some of Swarovski's international dogs!!

NOT WOODY, BUT ZIGGY!

Ziggy was the limited edition piece for the Lovlots City Park collection and only available during 2010. Here is how Swarovski describe Ziggy:

“Music is the language of love. Ziggy the woodpecker, the 2010 Limited Edition, spreads joy through City Park with the wonderful rhythms he creates with his Jet Metallic Blue crystal beak. Ziggy is an entertaining character with a charismatic nature. His role in the park is to provide entertainment for couples visiting the park by singing and tapping a romantic tune.
